Peer Outdoor Education for Mental Health (POEM) is a free peer support specialist training program that will take place at Jubilee Healing Farm in March 2026 for community college, undergraduate or graduate students who identify as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, Person of Color), have lived experience of mental illness or substance abuse, and have a passion for healing others. Individuals taking a gap year are also welcome. The program offers state certification as a peer support specialist combined with Jubilee training in restorative justice, mindfulness, and ecological and ancestral healing.
POEM aims to train and support a generation of Black community healers to address the disparity in mental health that is causing BIPOC students to leave their education at a higher rate than other groups. POEM seeks to create communities healing, to change lives, and to change the world.
There will be 40 hours of in person training:
Friday, March 13: evening gathering
March 14, 15, 20, 21, 22: in person full days of training (along with 10 hours of homework.)
An additional in person workshop will take place in April. Participants will need 20 additional training and volunteer hours (March 21st counts) toward certification and Jubilee can be the host site for those hours.
Application deadline is March 1, 2026. Applicants may be invited to a zoom interview and all those accepting into the program will be notified by the end of January.
